Hey guys, here be an introductory post ABOOT my Canadian adventure. As y’all probably know by now I shall go to Hay River, NT, Canada, to work as a volunteer for Operation Beaver – at the Diamond Jenness secondary school. For their website – and more cool websites – see the bottom of this page.
What will I do?
I will mainly tutor students between 13-20 years of age. I shall help them with their English reading, writing, and presenting. I might also have to co-teach or basically be a teacher’s assistant, and I will be expected to organise activities after school hours such as sports activities, theatre, improv comedy, dancing, Art, literature, what have you…! If I’m unlucky I’ll have to teach math or science on the side - this really is an option. The thing is that I won’t know for sure until I get there so here’s hoping..
What do I expect?
Well I expect the weather to be mildish. KIDDING!!! BUT - They could have sent me to the north pole so I shall be quite content with a minus twenty. Lol. As for stuff. I expect it will be hectic and crazy but fun. I will have to be very responsible and NOT (..allow my inner Scot to come to the surface and..) drink, since at least half of the town has a drinking problem. I do not mean to be rude in saying this but it really is true, the stats don't lie...! It might get tough but I hope that I will have a lot of fun too with students, colleagues, and basically the people in Hay River because I imagine everybody knows each other over there ;). I also expect to spot moose on a regular basis so stay tuned!!!!
When will I go?
From August the somethingeth – I have not booked my flight yet – to summer 2015.
I hope to travel and at least see Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and Calgary at the end of the school year!!
Who is this blog for?
Er, like, YOU, friggin’ DUHHH, but in case you still don’t get it here’s me fancy list:
*Friends – whom I will miss mucho. Please let’s Skype and keep in mind that the time difference is errrrrrrrrrr 8 hours so do allow me my beauty sleep 'eh!
*Family – in particular for my parents, brother, and grandma *waves* hoi Oma!!!

*Ex-students perchance? - Please excuse my occasional swearing. I know it’s going to happen. DEAR STUDENTS!!!! Know that not all of this is appropriate language use. There, I warned you.
